Mayor Todd Strange and Montgomery Multisport representative Greg Miles today officially announced the Montgomery Marathon is scheduled for March 14, 2015.



Miles said the 26.2 miles, 13.1 miles and 5K races will serve as the USA Track and Field Association state championships for Alabama ' something unprecedented for Montgomery's running scene. Additionally, the Montgomery Marathon is expected to be a qualifier for the Boston Marathon.



Aside from qualifying for Boston or winning state, runners in the Montgomery Marathon will have a chance to win a large purse for top finishes, which officials hope will reach $20,000.



Hyundai Motor Manufacturing of Alabama and Baptist Health will sponsor the event, which will be televised live by WAKA and WNCF. Visitors and participants can enjoy a range of activities, including the Taste of the South Food Festival and a running expo at Riverwalk Stadium on March 13.
